Who else is looking for ways to get rid of all the Halloween candy currently around their house 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♂️This is a super easy STEM activity you can try with Skittles or M&Ms that combines science and art! Take it further by experimenting with different water temperatures or different liquids (think oil, lemon juice, soda, etc!).

How It Works:

The science behind this phenomena involves concentration gradients and water stratification. Basically, the sugar and dye in the candy dissolves at the same rate and concentration, regardless of color. It wants to get to an equal concentration of sugar/dye in the water which is why it moves into the water but the colors don’t mix because they are already equally distributed.
